Northeast Changemakers Jam 2020 Application

We encourage you to type your answers in a word doc and save them, until you get a confirmation from us, as we occasionally experience technical glitches with this form.

If you are receiving this application after February 20, please contact us at <northeastyesjam@gmail.com> to make sure there is still space before applying. Thanks!

If you are an alumni of a previous NE Jam, and want to return, then please message us at <northeastyesjam@gmail.com> for the alumni application.

Due to the small and personal nature of the event, this application is longer and more in-depth than most, because we want to get to know you better. Please share as much as you feel comfortable sharing. There is no min/max length for responses and no pressure. We only ask you to share what you feel is ‘enough’. We will follow up with more questions or a phone call if we need more information. All of your answers, including your name and basic info, will be kept in full confidentiality.* Only the leadership team will have access to your application.

    * Please note that if you are accepted, your name and bio will be shared with the other participants of your Jam just prior to the event. Following the Jam, we will put this information up on our website so that you can participate in the alumni community, unless you request otherwise. More info on this is below.

The people in the room are the focus of the Jam, and sharing our stories, experiences, ideas, etc., through different formats, is how we engage and learn together. The following series of questions is meant to begin that process of sharing. Don’t worry about spelling or grammar or eloquent articulation. We just want to get a sense of who you are. Your story. Your truth.

    Who You Are

The people in the room are the focus of the Jam, and sharing our stories, experiences, ideas, etc., through different formats, is how we engage and learn together. The following series of questions is meant to be a taste of this principle. Don't worry about spelling or grammar or eloquent articulation. We just want to get a sense of who you feel you are.

What are some of the elements that you feel make you "who you are" in relation to yourself and to your world? This may include gender identity, ethnic background, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and anything else that you feel contributes to or shapes your identity or self-concept. We ask because we value diversity, the opportunity to create safe space, and want to know how to best meet participant needs.

What are your questions right now? What's alive for you? What are your current places of challenge, growth, and excitement?

Why do you want to be a part of a Jam specific to this region? If someone asked you, “Why a Northeast Jam now?” how would you respond?

What is your vision for your community/communities, for this region? What’s your work in the world and how do you see it related or not to that vision?

What’s the support that you need at this time in your life’s work? How might the Jam be able to help with that? What can you offer others to support their journey?

Please share with us any concerns, doubts, fears or reservations you would have about attending the Jam

Please give us a mini-bio (a paragraph version of your story) written in the third person (for example, using "she" instead of "I"). No need to be humble! Include contributions you've made, any awards or accomplishments, organizations you've been involved with, etc. This is the bio that will be shared with other participants of this Jam, and will be used for the YES! Website. (You can always modify it later.) :

Anything else you'd like to tell us?:

Optional: What other individuals or groups are you collaborating with (or would like to collaborate with) who might also be interested in attending this Jam? Please provide their full contact information if you would like for us to send them an invitation, or feel free to pass this invitation and application on to them.

    Costs of Attending

Tuition to participate in the Jam is offered on a sliding scale of $330 – $1350. We are working hard to make this event accessible to all people, regardless of ability to pay, and the Northeast Jam is operating on a tight budget. If you have less access to money, feel free to pay at the low end of the scale and if you have more access to money or resources and/or you have the financial backing of an organization or institution we invite you into class solidarity, to consider paying more so that someone else can pay less. The actual cost of participation is $1030, of which $400 covers food and lodging costs at Woolman Hill for five nights and $630 covers program costs, including organizing time, honoraria for facilitators, and materials. If you are not able to contribute $400 toward tuition, your food and sleeping arrangements will still be covered. If you pay more than the at-cost $1,030 amount for tuition, that extra amount is tax-deductible. If we have a higher than expected request for financial aid, or fewer than expected full tuition participants, we will provide a waiting list and offer additional aid as funds become available.

A number of partial scholarships are available upon request, on an as-needed basis, as are work trades. We work with each participant to set up the specific combo of scholarship, work trade and monetary payment that works for them. YES! also offers a monthly payment option and will work with you to figure out a payment schedule that is best for you. Additional donations above the event price are welcome and help us to provide scholarships to enable the diversity upon which this event thrives (they are also tax-deductible). We never want money to be a barrier in participating in a Jam, so we will do everything we can to make it work for you to attend.

Are you or your organization in a position to pay $1030 for tuition? If not, how much are you able to contribute (and what amount of scholarship would you require)? We ask that you contribute at least $400 if you can:

We invite work trades as well. Are there other non-monetary ways that you might be in reciprocity with the Jam (any particular skills, other in-kind contributions, etc.)?:

Travel expenses are the responsibility of the participant, though we do help to arrange carpools from around the region as much as possible. If you are selected, we will be following up with you to ask you about diet, housing, travel plans, etc. We want to be sure to meet your needs at the Jam.

Thanks so much for taking the time to fill out this long application! We'll be in touch as soon as we can.
