Law and Social Change Jam 2021 – Alumni Application

APPLICATION FORM FOR LAW AND SOCIAL CHANGE JAM ALUMNI ONLY

Note: We occasionally experience technical glitches with this form, so please save your answers in another format before hitting send. Once you receive confirmation from us, you can go ahead and delete that document if you like.

Thank you for your interest in returning to the Law and Social Change Jam. As you know, this event is intimate and personal, and we want to hear where you’re at today. As a result, our questionnaire is longer and more in-depth than most. Please share as much as you feel comfortable. There is no min/max length for responses and no pressure. We only ask you to share what you feel is ‘enough’. We will follow up with more questions via email or a phone call if we think we need more information.

And please keep in mind that as much as we’d love to have everyone back, we want to make this experience available to as many interested people as possible, which may mean we are unable to accommodate some alums. We’ll be considering the length of time since your last jam, the composition of new participants, and your application itself.

Also, please note that all of your answers, including your name and basic info, will be kept confidential.* Only the Law and Social Change Jam organizers will have access to your application. The more our team learns about you, the more informed our decisions can be throughout the selection process.

*If you are selected for the Jam, only your name and bio will be shared with the other participants of the Jam, and that will happen just prior to the event.

    Who You Are

As you probably remember, the people in the room are the focus of the Jam, and sharing our stories, experiences, ideas, etc., through different formats, is how we engage and learn together. The following series of questions is meant to be a taste of this principle. Don't worry about spelling or grammar or eloquent articulation. We just want to get a sense of you in your own voice.

    1. How do you identify? (Gender identity, ethnic background, sexual orientation, class, religion, personality, family, abilities, role in the law, anything else that makes you who you are.) We ask because we value diversity and the opportunity to create supportive and inclusive space, and we want to know how to best meet participant needs:

    2. What's alive for you these days? What are you working/playing on? How are you feeling? (Please check in :)

    3. How have you been integrating learnings, insights, healings, etc., from your last Jam? How have you been collaborating with folks since your last Jam?:

    4. Could you please share the reasons you want to come to the Jam again? What are you hoping to give this time around? What are you hoping to receive?:

    5. What does "justice" mean to you? What does it look like, feel like, conjure up for you, especially in these unprecedented times?:

    6. Please share with us any concerns, doubts, fears, or reservations you have about attending the Jam. This can include what kinds of support you feel you could use from us right now, anything about the technology that might feel challenging to you, any access needs, and anything else that you want us to know that might show up in the Jam itself::

    7. Please give us a mini-bio (a paragraph version of your story) written in the third person (for example, using “she” instead of “I”). No need to be humble! This is the bio that will be shared with other participants of this Jam, and will be used for the YES! website after the Jam. If you think you might want to modify it later, just make note of that. There’s no hard limit, and 250 words is probably enough:

    8. Anything else you'd like to tell us? Especially if there are ways we can support your presence and participation:

    Costs of Attending

Tuition to participate in the Jam is offered on a sliding scale of $100-$500. This covers our organizing time, honoraria for facilitators, and materials. We invite you to give what you can and to give generously, and any surplus supports partial scholarships for other participants. If you pay more than the at-cost $500 amount for tuition, that extra amount is tax-deductible.

Money should never be a barrier to applying: partial scholarships are available on a limited and first-come, first-served basis. We also invite work trades and monthly payment plans. We aim to figure out with each applicant the right combination of tuition, work trade and scholarship that can work for you. Remember, the sooner you apply, the better your chances are of receiving a partial scholarship if you need one.

    9. How much would you like to contribute to tuition?

Thanks so much for taking the time to fill out this lengthy application! We’ll be in touch as soon as we can.
